Happy Hot Pink

Nothin’ like a happy hot pink shift dress for a classic summer look.

And the best part? A hot pink dress makes other people happy! I love the domino-happy-effect.

The trick to wearing a hot pink dress?

Confidence and a smile.

It’s summer, so be bold, brave, and bright.
{so what if you don’t have that great of a tan? pale skin is beautiful, too!}

Palm Springs

Happy Monday!
 Mrs. Lilien has had me on a Palm Springs kick. Palm Springs is calling me and my vintage swimsuit to a swanky Palm Springs hotel with a swanky pool. Of course, this vintage late-1960s Barkcloth, with the most amazing design, cupcake buttons, and…yes…sequins, is coming with me. But I might have to check a bag…this thing weighs about ten pounds!

I love all of the visual weight from the pattern and texture, yet it fits beautifully so it doesn’t look overwhelming. Vintage MUST fit well or it’s not worth your time, my friends.
But Palm Springs? Palm Springs is always worth your time.

“Excuse me, which direction is the pool?”

This pattern reminds me so much of the new Kate Spade Florence Brodhurst design:

Doesn’t it have a lot of similar elements? Everything old is new again!
Have a GREAT Monday, my dears! I’m so excited for this week and I hope you are, too. It’s mid-July, high-summer, and I’m ready to make the most of every second of it.

Gosh vacation makes me feel so happy.
Mint green makes me feel so happy.
Family makes me feel so happy & loved.
Coffee definitely makes me feel happy.
Doesn’t it feel good to be happy?
To feel loved, happy, and free inside your heart?
You know what I mean?
For such a long time, I didn’t know what that freedom inside my heart felt like, even though I still thought I was “happy”.

But freedom? It feels different from happy. It is this amazing mix of calmness from such a deep well, and this utter freedom to explore and dream and do and love…to shine for Christ…nothing holding you back inside your heart.

It’s utterly stunning to experience.
And it’s only from Christ that I can ever say I feel freedom in my heart.
Only, ever, always Jesus.
Words for my heart:
Words for your heart:
Let your love, God, shape my life
with salvation, exactly as you promised;
Then I’ll be able to stand up to mockery
because I trusted your Word
Don’t ever deprive me of truth, not ever-
your commandments are what I depend on.
Oh, I’ll guard with my life what you’ve revealed to me,
guard it now, guard it ever;
and I’ll stride freely through wide open spaces
as I look for your truth and wisdom;
Then I’ll tell the world what I find,
speak out boldly in public, unembarrassed.
I cherish your commandments-oh, how I love them!
relishing every fragment of your counsel.
Psalm 119:41-48
{the message}
These words, my dear ones.
Let these words soak your spirit in healing and encouragement.

There’s not much more I can say, because those words feel so weighty and yet so weightless to my heart tonight.

Happy & Skippy

{yet again, these shorts WERE ironed at the beginning of the day, fyi}

Screen-star style! Give me a touring car and let’s hit the roads of Monaco!

Since I’m fresh off my “It’s raining” kick, I won’t go on a new, “It’s hot” kick. But, just for the record: it’s really, really hot outside.
Aaaaaaand moving on.
This outfit makes me happy and skippy. As in, wanting to skip instead of walk.
I love this outfit because it’s simple but punchy, and modern but retro. All of the pieces are new (ie. not vintage), and the colors are modern, but the whole look has a definite retro vibe.
Almost the weekend!

Bows and Bouffants

I’m a ’60s girl at heart, I do believe. Give me a bow and a bouffant and I’m quite happy indeed. Touches of leopard (and more bows in my hair!) and a blouse covered in tiny bows…yes yes and more yes. Always yes to bows!
 I think it’s so amusing how skinny jeans are such a modern trend right now, but they suit my ’60s tendencies so very well. Everything old is new again.
{P.S> Sorry my “Love, Natalie” graphic has gone missing…it will be back soon!}

Blue Skies

It’s been getting a little too casual around here. So I wore my Jackie dress again.

My Jackie dress makes me feel happy.
{Mom, where are you to give my dress a good yank down to smooth out those wrinkles when I need you?! }

I’m wearing the gold/seafoam cocktail ring, too, but you can’t quite see it.
Seafoam + Sky Blue + Royal Blue.
It has been so wonderful to see blue skies again!
I hope you have a beautiful blue-sky week!

Robin’s Egg Blue

{Goodness gracious I love this color!!!}
{and at first I thought I’d never find an outfit to wear that little cardigan. Ha!}
{I’ll just consider myself Zooey Deschanel’s sister, mmmkay?}
{nail polish that matches nature}

{baubles that match each other}

{vintage-y flats}

{those delicious colors again}
This darling little robin’s egg dress is one of my new favorite things. I have it hanging up in the living room just because it’s so pretty. I get that from my mother, who always used to hang pretty things up for me to look at when I was sick. Color is good for the soul, don’t you think? Especially in early spring, when the weather is still just teasing us. I can hardly wait to wear this nice rayon/linen dress in summer.

{I interrupt this post to tell you I JUST SAW A MOUSE IN MY HOUSE!!!!}
{orange fingernails from the spring Essie collection}

{fancy shoes}

{look at that beautiful seaming! gorgeous! that is one reason why I love vintage clothing so much–beautiful craftsmanship and detail}

This is my new 60s-Barbie-doll-clothes dress, as I’m calling it. That, or the Elle Woods/Jackie dress. I saw this dress and pined over it for a whole week before I decided to buy it. When I went back to purchase it, to my utter dismay, it was nowhere to be found! Nowhere! I searched all of the racks, high and low, and even had the sales lady helping me. She didn’t remember selling it, so it HAD to be somewhere! Turns out, it was discarded in the dressing room on the floor, trampled under the feet of a burly man who was trying on some construction pants and hacking up a lung. I picked it up, dusted it off, and decided with even more resolution than before, that it was coming home to be loved and worn by me. I simply adore all of it’s beautiful sky blue happiness. What do you think?
{The mouse in my house must approve, since he’s living in my closet. Gah!}

I’ll Be Aunt Mildred

No big deal, guys. I’ll just be the quintessential “Aunt Mildred” in all of the family photos with the crazy big hair and the handful of cocktail rings. You know, we all had one, right? Back in the 60s, in all the family photos? That’s me, and I’m OK with it. Also, I got this ring at H&M on Black Friday and the earrings many months ago at a little boutique in the Midwest. I thought it was crazy how well they coordinate!
In related news, this dress DOES fit the fingertip rule; my hair is not really off-center, I just couldn’t get the other side to stay UP; and I think that sweater makes me look vaguely pregnant (not, duh). And my elderly neighbor thought I looked “SO cute!” Guess she was an Aunt Mildred in her day 😉
