For the Love of Fuschia

thursday 008b
I am the queen of awkward outfit photos, don’t mind me. They’re a slight bit fuzzy because I also move at the last second and it’s hopeless. I mean, I don’t know why the paparazzi aren’t following me around snapping glamorous photos all the time, but in the meantime, I’m stuck with me, my tripod and my self-timer.
Aside from that, I’m just super into this rolled-jeans and leopard-smoking-slippers look, right?! Divine for fall.

And a gold exposed zipper on this wool tulip-hem shell from J.Crew is so good. Sooooo good.
thursday 003
Of course, a fuschia 60s-style jacket and some fuschia lipstick top it all off as the icing on the monochromatic-outfit-cake.
In other news, I just spilled my entire fresh cup of coffee on the rug/floor, so there’s that. I just felt you should know that so we could share the sadness in solidarity.
Also, here’s a little happy ditty for you today to make you smile.
“What a day for feelin’ alive!”

Has it not been just the most gorgeous October?
This girl thinks so!

Autumn

{ballet-like shoes in leaves}

{vintage-y jacket all cozy-like}

{wind in my hairz}
I tried to put together a lot of words tonight, but words aren’t working so well for me. So instead I’ll just tell you that I had a pumpkin latte today and it was delicious, and I love these shoes and crunchy piles of leaves.

Writer Outfit

I like to call this my “Writer Making a Living” outfit, as opposed to the real writer outfit.  Unfortunately the real writer outfit is sweatpants and a sweatshirt with the hood up as I hunch over my laptop while alternately frantically typing at keys and staring off into space. At any rate, I quite like the financially-viable writer version of Natalie because she wears kinda awesome outfits, don’t you think?? 😉

Is It Still a Party If I Don’t Wear A Dress?

Insanely gorgeous fall weather today. I didn’t even need my sweater most of the day!

This is the simple outfit I wore to a dear friend’s little girl’s birthday party. Had to keep things simple for chasing kids rolling down hills and such. But it made me wonder: is it still a party if I don’t wear a dress? I almost always wear dresses to parties!

               Obviously I DID bring a cake. So I think as long as I bring a cake and/or wear a dress, it’s                                                                                        definitely a  party.

Oh! And a Friday vlog for you 🙂
Oh here’s one more pic of that cake. Gluten-free, all-natural, vegetable-colored sprinkles for the win!

Happy Friday, dears!

Luxe Girl

I think the combination of pink pearls, gold buttons, and suede boots just says “luxe.” Don’t you think?
I think the key is to keep them monochromatic.
Also, there’s like ONE day a year where you can wear a light sweater, shorts, and suede boots.
Maybe two days, one in the spring and one in the fall.
And for those one or two days, I kinda love it.

Resist It

Lately there’s a song that’s just been playing over and over in my head. Jason Reeve’s “Old-Fashioned Letters” (it’s sad so don’t say I didn’t warn you!) and there is one line…
“I want to run, but I resist it.”

Ugh, goodness gracious this line. I want to run, but I resist it. You know it takes a lot of effort to run, but it seems to take MORE effort to stay.
Staying is hard.
Waiting is hard.
Being in a difficult transition, with no direction, and a whole lot of anxiety–yeah, staying there is hard.

When the big things are out of whack, I need to learn to be better at leaning into them. Leaning into HIM, leaning into the Word, and leaning into the waiting.
Because waiting?

It’s actually refinement.

And I always wanted to a refined lady, polished and graceful in the waiting.

Grace

{new dress that was on crazy-clearance at TJ Maxx. It was a size medium so I sewed it up to a small 🙂 The lace on the top has gold threads through it!)
I’ve been thinking about grace lately.
I’ve been having some hard thoughts about grace lately.
We talk a lot about seeking grace (an unmerited pardoning of our transgression or shortcoming).
But we seem to think that grace just IS and it’s always there and it’s free and we can take as much as we need for every little thing.
{Who needs a wind machine when you’ve got the real thing?!}
Which is mostly true. Grace is free and available to us. But I don’t want us to forget that it was not free for God. God? Yeah, He PAID that price. He sent His only son to DIE on the cross for us.
And to rise again.
That is the reason we have grace.
Grace is powerful.
Grace should be transformative in our lives.
So here’s what I propose: instead of shouting “grace” over ourselves, let’s not claim grace without going to the GIVER of GRACE and being on our knees before Him for a moment.
Isn’t that the point of grace?

To point us back to God?

To be grace-filled by the giver of all good things, so that we, too, may go out into the world and give grace to others.
{now I’ve got the doxology in my head. anyone else? #praiseGodfromwhomallblessingsflow}
Your thoughts on grace?

Heeeeeeeeey guys! 🙂
Oh heeeeeeeeey blue suede boots, baby!

Oh heeeeeeeeeeeey giant new awesome sunglasses!

Oh heeeeeeeeeey blue makeup and waves in my hair!

I think I like all of these things quite a lot.

Don’t you agree?

The perfect mix of summer and impending autumn.
(you’ll be seeing a lot of these boots, I imagine. in. love. with. them.)
Happy Wednesday, friends!
