Happy Fall!

firstdayoffall3

It has been a beautiful first few days of fall here! I love being able to wear my favorite boots and a few layers or heavier materials (such as this lovely alpaca sweater, one of my favorite fall pieces).

  firstdayoffall2

These are all classic pieces that combine to make an outfit that is both timeless and modern, with the addition of a fun, colorful necklace and some details like wedges and zippers on the boots and bell sleeves on the sweater. I’ve had the Coach belt since high school!

Big sunglasses are always a must, and a Cafe Americano can go a long way towards making a beautiful day, too.

Weekend Adventuring

I ordered a Strand Books x Kate Spade surprise box as part of their 20 Things We Love series of partnering with unsung companies they love. I received a Kate Spade/Strand Books tote bag (love!), a Strand Books cosmetic case, a Strand Books diner mug, and a Kate Spade bookmark, all wrapped in darling hot pink tissue paper. So fun!
Picked up a new hat I’m totally in love with and went antiquing… Also my new contacts finally came in, so I can ditch the glasses for awhile 🙂

Baked gluten-free pumpkin scones for tea (earl-gray lavender) on a gray Saturday.
Went to an Anthropologie for the first time EVER (can you believe it?!) to find the Fall issue of Darling Magazine with my poems in it. Score!! Also, the girls who worked at Antrho and J.Crew liked my outfit, which I take as a high compliment since they are all so stylish! Also had my first-ever Pinkberry (vanilla with Nutella).
Hope you had a great weekend!

Adventuring Twin Cities: Dreamcoat Coffee

I have discovered a hidden gem. Of coffee. A hidden coffee gem.
It’s called Dreamcoat Coffee

Boy is it dream-worthy! Try their S’more Latte and you’ll be thinking about it for days!

Look at this deliciousness!
It would be even more delicious if you weren’t gluten-free and were able to have the crushed graham crackers and caramel sauce on top. But no matter—this pile of whipped cream with chocolate sauce suits me just fine.

They have these cute little journals all around the store so you can write whatever you want about your trip to Dreamcoat–of course, I left a note! A journal with a pen anywhere calls my name.
Oh wait! I didn’t tell you!
(and maybe I’m only telling you now since I moved away?)
But this coffee shop is CONNECTED TO A THRIFT STORE.
I’m sorry to shout in your ear.
But it’s truly like a dream—an amazing little find of a coffee shop, attached to a Salvation Army thrift store Boutique.
Look at all of these fun things you could snatch up!
How could I not love this?

Coffee Date Vlog

Happy Friday!
Today I’m trying out something totally new: a vlog or video blog!
Nothing monumental, just a “coffee date” chat and linking up with Rags to Stitches!
Um, so, like, this is me, you guys (embarrassed look). This is my first vlog so go easy on me!
Let’s see, what else is new?

1.) I wrote about my beloved New England state, Vermont, for Elembee blog.

2.) You can “like” me on Facebook now! (if my video hasn’t scared you off!) I share a lot of new stuff on here that isn’t on my blog.

3.) This post went a little crazy on Pinterest. Have you tried it, or pinned it for later?
4.) Here’s a link to the book I mention in my vlog.
Have a great weekend, my dears!

Tea Cakes {with Coffee}

These little tea cakes are just so adorable. They are happy, and that makes me happy 🙂 And they taste about 1000 times better than they look.

I know these are technically meant to be eaten with tea in the afternoon. But I say, Why not with coffee in the morning? I’m an adult, I can make that call, right?

Besides, the light was landing on that one in the back, illuminating it and saying, “Pick me! Pick me!”
Eat dessert first! And by first, I mean, for breakfast!

Oh. Yeah.
I also ate an egg for breakfast because, y’know, adults have to make the tough decisions.

These would be brilliant to have in a pretty basket down on the kitchen counter by the coffee maker for early-rising Christmas guests. They’ll feel like royalty in a 100-diamond hotel. Which is way, way, way better than a 5-star hotel. Duh!
This is the marvelous Gesine’s recipe, which I made gluten-free using Bob’s Red Mill GF flour, added some almond extract, and used my mini-mini bundt pan from Nordicware. Show her the love for this amazing recipe!
 Enjoy!

Eggnog Chai Latte

{see the cute tiny little Swedish Santa?}
You may or may not have noticed that I’ve been digging the seasonal drinks lately.
I jumped on the Pumpkin Spice bandwagon this autumn, but what REALLY makes my tastebuds jump with holiday joy is the Chai Eggnog Latte at Starbucks. This drink, you guys. I have been having a love affair with it for about ten years. Back when I was a sous chef, the head chef would occasionally order coffee for everyone and they all just got regular coffee, but he knew to order me a Chai Eggnog Latte so I would do a good job on amuse bouche that night to make him look good! Ha.
Anyway, I just knew I HAD to try to recreate this (expensive) delicious drink at home this season.
You know what?
It tastes even better made at home. My mom (the resident coffee snob) said, “This is way better than Starbucks.” High praise from her!
And I’m totally going to share the recipe with you, because it’s easy and just far too good to keep to myself.
I only keep the mediocre stuff to myself, because you don’t need to know about all of the mediocre things I attempt. They’re my little secret.
I’m really, really wordy tonight with this post, and throwing in a lot of useless information. While I’m going there, I might as well tell you that I had to make an emergency run to the dollar store tonight to get more glue sticks for my glue gun. Super important information.
{A “Sprinkle” of cardamom, cinnamon, and ginger, along with a nutmeg to grind.}
Now, I know, I know, I’ve kept you waiting. Sorry. Here it is:
Eggnog Chai Latte
by Good Girl Style
A little less than half of a mug of eggnog (make sure your eggnog is gluten-free if necessary; some aren’t)
A little more than half of a mug of hot, strong coffee (to fill the mug, obviously)
A “Sprinkle” (1/32nd of a teaspoon) of: cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg
A splash of vanilla
Sugar to taste (I used approximately 1 tsp., some like it sweeter)
Whipped Cream
A dash of cinnamon to top
Heat the eggnog until very hot but not scalded. (Easy way: just throw it in the microwave). Stir in the spices and vanilla. Add the coffee. Add the sugar. Stir well. Top with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon. Makes 1 mug.

Now, I’m pretty sure these would be amazing with the Chai Shortbread Cookies. If I had any left. But you can feel free to bake up a batch and share with me.
Yeah?
Enjoy!
(PS. Make one of these lattes for your mom. She’ll love you for it)

Friendship

I’m feeling so happy and blessed today. It was a wonderful weekend–it was sweaty and hard work to throw a 2-day tag sale (alllllllllllll day both days), but such a blessing, too. I met some great people, had wonderful conversations, gathered so many ideas, drank a lot of coffee, enjoyed fellowship & company of friends, and was thrilled to make some gas money for my move.

I ended the weekend with a cookout and several toasted marshmallows, with more good friends!

This darling little dress? Well it is bound to become a great friend in my closet, too. I’ve worn it twice since I got it last week!

{Details}

Friday morning, my french press broke. Not even the glass! I was washing it and the plunger just snapped off. Crazy. Anyway, one of my best friends is such a dear and she gifted me this HOT PINK french press.
The best.
Friendship is oh so dear.
I’m already loath to leave, and start over on that front.
Enjoy your Monday! I hope you have the day off…but if not, put a smile on and enjoy the day anyway. Why not, right?
xo!
