Birthday {Part I}

Hi 🙂
It was my birthday 🙂
I received the most luscious bouquet of hot pink and light pink roses 🙂
My family and friends really went all out to make sure it was a special day…sending flowers, gifts from afar, cards, and bringing pink champagne and presents. They really indulged me, and are ever-so-good to me. Thank you, dears, for making my day so special 🙂

My brother calls this my Neopolitan Ice Cream skirt. I call it my Birthday Tutu! I’ve worn it for my birthday before (see this old-as-the-hills post). It’s just so perfectly pinkly party-y! I wore it with my grandmother’s crinoline underneath. Can you believe she used to wear it under her poodle skirts in the 50s?! I love it so much it’s not even funny.

The feather headpiece was a birthday gift a few years ago from one of my very best friends. I love it so much and have worn it on many birthdays because it is just so birthday-y! I wore some vintage costume jewelry earrings, and my polka-dot tights too.
A birthday only comes once a year, so it definitely requires some party clothes! Don’t you agree?
Check out PART TWO here, including my green-ombre cake with pink frosting!

Back to Smiles

I’m glad to show you smiles today 🙂
Glad to show you my cute new leopard headband from Oh, Sweet Joy and my Radiant Cosmetics lipstick.
Totes in love with both of them.

Which is good, because this week has been hard on me. If I’m honest, the year has been hard on me. A year ago yesterday, a week out from Christmas, a relationship with a man I thought I was going to marry ended. So my heart has been all sorts of heavy lately.

I tried to write about eight hundred blog posts about it, but none of it felt settled enough to share. I don’t feel settled enough to share. I’m still a bit of a hot mess (totally tearing up right now). And that’s embarrassing to admit, a year later. I feel like I should be fine, should be moving on, should be dating and happy. But the year really took a lot of life and love out of me, and I’m still searching for healing. A few months ago a friend asked me if I was dating, and I kid you not the word sounded foreign to me. The thought hadn’t even crossed my mind. I think if I really shared my heart about the subject, I’d never be able to put it back together again, so I guess I’ll keep carrying on with joy in the little things and trying to get back to smiles. Happy Natalie is so much more fun 🙂
Much love, my dears!

1970s

High-waist jeans and clogs just scream “1970” to me.
My mom used to rock that look so well, including the Farah Fawcett hair.
Wonder if I could get my hair to do that these days?

Ya think?

Not much to say tonight, my friends! I’m working on a project, contemplating baking some scones, and even thinking about a cup of coffee at 8pm. Hmmm….
xo!

Dressy Dress

la-teeee-dah

pockets!

Exposed Zipper!
Bumped hair with pink bobby pins—rest of hair twisted around back to side pony 🙂

Lots of studs…studded belt + stud earrings, too,

Purple makeup + false eyelashes.
Light pink headband plus light pink belt.
This dress is yet another item I wanted to wear before it got too warm for such a heavy (visually and materially) item. I brought in a bit of lightness with the light pink headband and belt, and a sparkly cardigan that catches the light (you know the one, gray with sequin stripes, right?).
I was so happy this day! I love a good full-skirt dress with pockets and a vintage vibe with decidedly modern touches (exposed zipper!). This has a unique neckline, too. It will be so great to wear to Christmas parties, don’t you think? We are 1/3 of the way through with the year! Gah!

Easter Sunday

Petals in my hair and wind in my skirt! Ha.
Colors, colors, COLORS!

I entertained a few friends after church for Easter dinner, and the tablescape made me feel so happy!
Good food, fun, and fellowship. What a fantastic way to celebrate our Risen Savior.
He is Risen, and He is coming again. Amen!

Ice Queen

I’m not sure I’m ever going to take my “crown” off, guys. Like, ever. Okay.
And yes, I might be wearing ice blue eyeliner, and totally loving it.
I had the inspiration to wear this necklace as “ice baubles” and the “ice blue” eyeliner for a fun photoshoot I did, and just loved it so much I had to wear it out.
This amazing metal bauble necklace is one of my favorite purchases! I actually snagged it at a Von Maur the night before my photoshoot with Life:Beautiful magazine. It was $12, and I would pay every penny of that again just to wear it on my head like this one more time. I love it! We even used it in the photoshoot for the magazine. You can see it below, after one of the clever LB team girls turned it into a bracelet. I took a note from their cleverness and turned it into a hair piece! Who would have thought?!
And it’s kinda famous, having been in a magazine and all.
But enough about my necklace/bracelet/hairpiece (WHICH I LOVE!!!!!! And I’m not going to take it off!)….ok, now that’s really enough.
I’m going to stop now.
Also, I have no idea why I’m looking to the sky in both of those photos.
