Meet Blowfish Shoes

New favorite shoes alert. But first: a story.
I once had a pair of white and cork heels that I got compliments on every.single.time I wore them. And wear them, I did, until they were completely unwearable, unrepairable, and I tearily said goodbye to them (is tearily not a word?).
Sad story, right?
Nope.
Becaaaaaauuuuussseeeee…look what I found!
I know this will be my new compliments-all-the-time can’t-stop-wearing-em shoe. The Illi Wedge in Faux Straw is just seriously amazingly beautiful, comfortable, and best of all: affordable from Blowfish Shoes.
A perfect wedge, just like the kind Duchess Kate likes to wear.
The perfect summer shoe, to go with any summer dress.
The cutest little almond toe shape with a little toe-box pleat.
A really soft interior that’s an amazing shade of blue.
And a real rubber sole to keep me from slipping during summer adventures.
Seriously, I’m in love.

I hope you all know I only ever talk about things I really am crazy about. And these shoes? Crazy about ’em.
Also lovin’ on this beautiful linen Tibi dress, but that’s playing second fiddle to these straw shoes.
{I also just like to say my straw shoes. Giggle.}

Blowfish Shoes has got it down. Great shoes, great customer service, great attention to detail.

Not to mention…they’re generous too! Giveaway time tomorrow, friends! Stay tuned 😉

Houndstooth & Hearts

There is something so classically striking about houndstooth, jeans, and patent heels, don’t you think? I adore it. Add a french twist, and some heart-polka-dots on my peplum top, and I’m one happy girl.

So, story:
I ran into a friend at Goodwill.
You guys, that means I have friends here! I have people I know and run into in random places at random times! I’m official!
Also, I got a Pottery Barn charging station for $3.99. So that was great.
But you know how she said she recognized me? My hairstyle.
Ha.
I guess I sure do a lot of 60-inspired hair twists 🙂
Random sunnies; Lisa Leonard – ((together)) Necklace; Forever21 sweater; Kohls tank; Old Navy jeans; thrifted DvF heels (what a score!)

Have a beautiful day, my friends!

Vintage Christmas Eve

Vintage hat, vintage rhinestone bow shoulder brooch, and vintage dress.
I bought this dress a few months ago, but it needed a bit of TLC to be wearable. When it comes to vintage, needing a bit of TLC is no problem for me, so I set to work handsewing and cutting off the awkward mid-calf lower tier that was falling apart anyway. I think it turned out very cute shorter! I wish you could see the back better…such a pretty foldover drape with a big satin button on one side.

Sunshine and a bit of snow on the ground for Christmas.

Hello!
My DAD said this was a cute outfit, and that it was very Jackie Kennedy. A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!
😉

I wore it with my red wool coat for a festive touch.

So many pictures.
Hope you had a great Christmas!

Wearing Hats {Part 2}: Ring Hat w/ Veil

Hat Number One: Vintage Linen Ring Hat with Veil and Little Velvet Bows:
Summer seems so light, beautiful, and full of endless possibility.

Except sometimes, life has other plans.

{outtake, but I actually loved it.}

Sometimes, we have to say goodbye in summer. I know, it doesn’t seem fair. It just doesn’t suit our collective spirit in summertime to have endings. I wore this outfit to the funeral of a dear friend’s grandmother. Sometimes, we must say goodbye at inopportune times. To be honest, there is never an opportune time for goodbyes.
As I write this, there’s an odd light hanging in the air. A summer storm is billowing on the horizon, and the leftover sunlight juts through storm clouds in a strange pattern. Sometimes, too, summer storms billow on the horizons of our lives.

{fingernail polish matches shoes}
I’m a believer in wearing black to funerals. It feels respectful, and symbolic of the loss. Black says, “The world is stopping for a moment, our world is, because we lost someone who kept it turning.” Much like my comments on Good Friday and the veil I wore then, wearing black and a hat helps me feel the symbolism, respect, and grieving process. When someone’s world stops as a loved one passes on, wearing black feels appropriate
And so does wearing a vintage ring hat with veil.

Red, White, Blue, Lace, Zebra

I’m such a sucker for dressing for holidays. And sometimes kitschy is fun, too, but I think it’s great to dress for the occasion a bit more subtly. I’m still wearing red (bangles & vintage earrings), white (dress, first day of the season to wear it…mixed with cream), and blue (ice blue eyeliner), but I don’t think the outfit screams, “Walking American flag.” I like to save that for the Fourth of July 😉
The zebra heels are a fun surprise element to this vintage shift dress, and with the rattan heels, are so summery. First Heidi braids of the season, and with bangs, too! Love it so much.
It was so funny because I spent the rest of the day adventuring, and it seemed everywhere I stopped people loved this dress! I say that because when my mom was visiting a month ago, and we were cleaning out my closet, she put this in my “donate” pile. Mom, I think I’m going to keep it, sorry 🙂
Another huge THANK YOU to all families, past & present, who carry the burden of their loved ones’ sacrifices for our country. Thank you. We will miss them, honor them, and never forget.
Have a GREAT week!

Blue Suede Shoes & Orange Sherbet

Look! I made a weird face and pointed to my shoes! Highlighted by sun flare/dirty camera lens?

Blue Suede Shoes, baby!
I also switched to some black ballet flats for part of the day.

Cupcake earrings!

Orange vintage beads and ruffles!

Goodness, this is such a happy outfit to me! Perhaps it had something to do with the utterly SPRING-like weather today! But no matter, I’ll chalk it up to this divine color combination.

Hooray! Thanks, God!

Draper Girl

Oh my, do I love a good hat!
A girl hop on a train to anywhere with a good hat.
{midnight train goin’ anyyyyyyyyywheeeeerrrrrrreeeeeeee}
Ahem. Pardon the complete digression. But these photos were taken at a train station. And then I just got carried away. Bachelor night seems to make me feel a little over-dramatic

And then the sun came out for a hot minute before it started snowing lightly. The wind was blowing something fierce, so I had to hold on to my hat for dear life.
When I saw that this particular hat was a “Draper” hat, I just had to get it for the Mad Men reference. Apart from its particular cute-ness.
But goodness if there isn’t a bit of romance in that, don’t you think?
Train stations, vintage hats, wind, Draper…
A bit of romance, if I do say so myself.
{See what I mean about Bachelor nights making me overly dramatic?}

Chartreuse & Latte

{Ooo, love that movement in the skirt!}
A few things:
1.) This color combination….well, I’m not gonna lie: it’s interesting. And I never would have thought of it had I not found this wonderful vintage belt at the thrift store. But I think I’m a fan.
2.) I always though midi-length skirts were tough to wear. But judging by the number I’ve been donning recently, they can’t be that bad. Or else my posts are just terrible and no one’s telling me 😛
3.) My shirt is latte-colored. Which compels me to tell you about these amazing babies. The Cappuccino flavored one is delish. They taste like melted coffee ice cream, or a thicker Frappuccino, or maybe even a Wendy’s Jamocha shake. All amazing things, my friends, to be saying a PROTEIN drink tastes like! Now, I’m a girl who has a tough time getting enough protein. And it seems like every boyfriend I’ve ever had has “gifted” me protein powder. BLECH! So finding these? I’m totally hooked!
Don’t bother with the chocolate one, it still tastes yucky, and I haven’t tried the chai yet nor the vanilla.

Cashmere Taste

Cashmere taste on a thrift store budget!

Sometimes a girl with cashmere taste on a thrift store budget makes out like a bandit. This 100% cashmere pencil skirt with adorable pleating was $10, ya’ll. It’s kinda the softest, most wearable skirt ever, and one of my favorite thrift finds so far. I envision I’ll be wearing it all winter, so I’m sorry if you get sick of seeing it!
Also, I almost didn’t buy these shoes.
But then I did. And they got me lots of compliments (and blisters).
And  one more also: Happy New Year!
May God continue to refine us in the coming year.

Crazy Love/ I’m Bringing Hats Back

 I crazy-love this outfit. I crazy-stupid-love this hat. Gah, gorgeous vintage hat with a pink lining and a bow on the back!!! I wore this to our church Christmas party, where everyone went crazy over the hat! I’ve always loved vintage hats, and have a few to my name that I collected over the years (as a teenager, mostly!). When I saw this one in the thrift store you’d better believe I snatched it up like nobody’s business! I’m on a hunt for more now, so if you find a good source, send it my way. I’m bringing hats back, baby.
This outfit elicited many comments out in the real world! Some of my favorites:
~At the post office, someone told me her 8-year-old niece would absolutely love my outfit! (I love that young girls like my outfits. Makes me super happy)
~My neighbor said I looked like I belonged in Glamour magazine (hehe! Maybe in 1962!)
~A stranger said I looked like I “belonged in the city”
~The older ladies at church went crazy over my hat, calling me a “fashion plate” and wanting to know if it was really vintage.
~An older man at church complimented the hat, and my boyfriend approved!
I just loved that this outfit was appreciated across the spectrum. Warms my heart to go about my business (I wore this to the post office, the grocery store, and a Christmas party), smiling, spreading Christmas happiness. A ladylike outfit does so much for a girl!
To keep things from being too literal and vintage, I added my moose necklace and some patterned hose. Oh I just love it! I would live in this outfit! The popcorn sweater! The sweet bow top! The high-waisted, pleated skirt! In hot pink and black? Getouttatown.
