Dress Like a Cupcake

monday1
I’m not going to lie, some days I dress like a cupcake on purpose. Pink, frosting, fanciful, fur, all the things.
monday 015
Yes, those are pansies on my pants (J.Crew just gets me, y’know?). And dalmation flats. And a pink fur coat. Because FRIDAY, ya’ll.
FRI-YAY! MORE COFFEE! #caffeinecrazy

Monday Hello

Time for a Monday blog & vlog! Just a little hello and catch-up (and a weird thumbnail image!) 🙂

I did a little beach chair re-vamp, too…spray-paint and some vintage fabric and trim can do wonders for a rusty beach chair 🙂

New beach chair was thoroughly enjoyed. A bit too thoroughly, as I am THOROUGHLY sunburned 🙁
But mostly, the past 2 weeks I’ve been MIA on set for a cookbook photoshoot I styled.

#workinit
And I FINALLY got a copy of the Darling Magazine with 8 of my BRAND-NEW, PRINT-ONLY poems in them! Grab your copy now at Anthropologie, WholeFoods or a local cool retailer (ask your local stores to carry it if they don’t already!).
Darling Summer 2015 issue available to order online here too
But it hasn’t been all work and no play…
Tee hee.
Have a great week, my dears!

Lavender and Wine

I simply canNOT stop wearing this orchid merino wool sweater with gold shoulder zips from J.Crew.  It’s a bit drapey, but with fitted sleeeves and the nice side vents to give it shape. Perfect color for autumn, don’t you think? I love this orchid color with navy, wine (as my boots are), chocolate brown, olive green, deep golden yellow, and tan, like my hat. Such luscious combinations!

I’ve said before there are about 2 days each year where the shorts-and-boots combo actually works, and this was the fall day! Wool shorts are a unique specimen in and of themselves…because they’re, well…WOOL. SHORTS. I mean…
But I did get compliments on the shorts, and I think they’re super cute with boots.

Fall is the absolute perfect time for all of my wool hats, including this gem from American Eagle, believe it or not. I love its curvy 70’s-style brim that highlights sunglasses just perfectly. And the bright bangles and earrings are from J.Crew, too, and add a fun pop of contrast to this outfit.

Have you ever worn shorts with boots? What do you think of the combination?

Coral & Leopard

Goodness, love me some Spring weather. You can just dress perfectly when it’s 70 degrees with a light breeze and plenty of sunshine. A great pencil skirt, bare legs, and a nice little cardigan. #ideal

Add Some Blue Skies to Your Day

pinkjacket1GGS

A bright Spring coat, such as my bright pink wool version from J.Crew, is a must-have for this time of year. You’re sick of your heavy down winter coat, right? Me too. Investing in a transition coat (or a few, I also have a seafoam green coat and a red trench!) bring color and light to your wardrobe while still keeping you warm on the days Spring decides to be not-so-nice.

GGSskybluenailpolish800

Oh Spring! How tempestuous a season you are! Snow, rain, “wintry mix”, this abominable thing called “freezing mist” and then…bright, glorious blue skies! How my heart soars! I’m absolutely LOVING my sky-blue nail polish from Sinful Colors (Bright Lucite-dont’ya love that name?!). Glossy, gorgeous blue sky nails are a sure-fire way to bring some brightness to your wardrobe (and your life!).

What are some ways YOU add color to your life this time of year? Do you have a bright rain coat, umbrella, wellies, or a favorite shade of nail polish? Let me know in the comments!

Sequins, Scallops, and Eyelet

This feels like such a true “Natalie” outfit–pulled together, sophisticated, but still very youthful and playful.

Fun colors, textures switches, and ladylike silhouettes.
Fun sunnies, one of my favorite vintage bags…
Everyone dies over this bag. Some ladies were saying they wanted the pattern as wallpaper. Sign me up, too!

Then of course I picked up this navy hat with a ZIPPER edge (which matches the zippers on the back of my boots) and resistance was futile. Love a good fall hat!

Let’s Play Choose the Belt

{I really did brush my hair, promise}
I’m such a dork; I totally love game shows. I love old fashioned ones, and watched many rounds of Card Sharks & vintage Let’s Make a Deal when I was younger. Over Christmas break, I watched a good deal of current Let’s Make a Deal (goodness, I think Wayne Brady is hysterical).
{outfit details}
So I thought it might be fun to have you help “style” me today!
 You can see I’ve got this gorgeous coral color goin’ on in my bangles and Caroline G. necklace.
Now, let’s play: Choose the Belt!
So should I stick with coral? Go neutral? Throw in a fun pattern?
Belt Choices
{#5 is definitely called “coral” on BR website, though it looks crazy-orange here}
Got a favorite?
I’d love to know which belt you would choose for this outfit.
Unfortunately, there is no prize (because how could there be a winner? You’re all winners in my eyes!). Also unfortunately, there’s no Wayne Brady involvement whatsoever.
But I still  can’t wait to hear what you think!

Matching My Dog

Sometimes apparently I run out of pose ideas so I start to dance like Elaine from Seinfeld. This doesn’t surprise me. Does it surprise you? Didn’t think so.

Or maybe I’m just excited because Lottie got a new collar, leash, and sweater! Lottie is my family dog, the sweetest of sweetie pies. A real darlin’, that girl is. This Christmas she got a new red collar and my grandma knit her this adorable sweater. Lottie has never lived where there are major snowstorms, so she absolutely loves her cozy new outerwear. She also got this fancy new leash.

{which matches my outfit}

This leash is the real deal. Made by PAWW, a sister company of HumanGear, it is high-tech and human-savvy. The workmanship is stellar, and the leash is made out of double rip-stop nylon (often used in mountaineering equipment), which means if you were lost in the wilderness and needed to go all Bear Grills for some reason, you’d want this leash with you. It’s that tough.
Obviously, I’m not recommending you use this leash in any sort of mountaineering, other than taking your dog on a nice long walk in the woods.
Dogs dig that sort of thing.
And with the Paww Pick Pocket Leash, you will too. This intuitive, “civilized” leash keeps your doggie necessities right at hand. There is a built-in bag dispenser for doggy bags, and a zippered pocket for cash, a key, or better yet, a treat for your pup. The top clips around a post if you need to leave your pooch outside for a quick run to the store. There is a handy “utility loop” on the top that can be used to attach a flashlight, a used doggie bag, a toy, or whatever else you need to bring to the dog park or on that walk in the woods.

Lottie loves this leash.
My only complaint with this leash is that we were taught in our dog’s fancy training classes to always hold the leash with two hands, one wrapped around the leash and one farther down (that’s hard to describe in words). The high pocket placement makes it a bit hard to hold the leash in this manner. I think it might be nice to have the pocket closer to the collar, or perhaps adjustable. But we haven’t stopped using this leash on account of that….no way!
It’s clear with one look at this leash that it is the gear of choice for dogs and their owners who appreciate style and practicality. This leash means business.
It also means “extra long walks for Lottie.”
So it’s pretty win-win.
Many thanks to Katrin from Paww/HumanGear for letting me review their great products! This is my honest opinion in my own words.

Chambray Confession

You know how sometimes, everyone has something, so you resist getting one for no good reason other than principle? And then it goes on crazy-sale at J.Crew and you decide to just test the waters and see why everyone was going so crazy. And the minute you slip on the chambray shirt, you get it
Totally not talking about myself here.
Ahem.

Well, no matter. I jumped on the chambray shirt bandwagon, my friends, and boy am I sure glad! I have no doubt you’ll be seeing this shirt a lot. And if you might have happened to be like me, uneasy about why everyone was going crazy over a denim shirt, don’t worry. It’s absolutely wonderful, I promise.

And while I’m reppin’ J.Crew just ’cause, this outfit definitely reminds me of something out of their catalogue. Stripes, chambray, glasses, a giant cocktail ring, ankle-zip cords, and bright blue suede pumps?
That has J.Crew-bandwagon written allllllll over it.
