Birthday {Part I}

Hi 🙂
It was my birthday 🙂
I received the most luscious bouquet of hot pink and light pink roses 🙂
My family and friends really went all out to make sure it was a special day…sending flowers, gifts from afar, cards, and bringing pink champagne and presents. They really indulged me, and are ever-so-good to me. Thank you, dears, for making my day so special 🙂

My brother calls this my Neopolitan Ice Cream skirt. I call it my Birthday Tutu! I’ve worn it for my birthday before (see this old-as-the-hills post). It’s just so perfectly pinkly party-y! I wore it with my grandmother’s crinoline underneath. Can you believe she used to wear it under her poodle skirts in the 50s?! I love it so much it’s not even funny.

The feather headpiece was a birthday gift a few years ago from one of my very best friends. I love it so much and have worn it on many birthdays because it is just so birthday-y! I wore some vintage costume jewelry earrings, and my polka-dot tights too.
A birthday only comes once a year, so it definitely requires some party clothes! Don’t you agree?
Check out PART TWO here, including my green-ombre cake with pink frosting!

Oh how I spent today wishing it were the weekend! It was gray, rainy, and my heart just felt a bit downcast. So I decided to share a few of my favorite weekend things, even though it’s Wednesday…

Favorite Snacks

Favorite Snacks by fashionatalie

Amazing tea I discovered on my road trip!
The BEST yogurt in the BEST flavor…anything strawberry rhubarb is kinda my favorite, but this is above and beyond.
Udi’s Cranberry granola is so delicious for this time of year.
Pamela’s Chocolate-Chip Coconut “Whenever Bars” are a delicious GF treat.
This chocolate bar was a gift…and man, was it delicious!
It’s that time of year again…I’m getting out my Urban Moonshine Immune Tonic, one of my favorite health products.

And here’s the outfit I desperately want to be wearing right now….
Weekend Cozy

H&M print dress, $40 / H&M , $48 / H&M , $13 / H&M , $13 / Wallis low boots / Muk Luks military glove

Sweatshirt DRESS = GENIUS. Pair it with a cute vest, polka-dot tights, tall fair isle boot socks, cute ankle boots, and some great gloves.
Now I think it’s time for tea and reading…that oughtta help me through till the real weekend!

GGS Goes Shopping: Back to School

I had a request for a back-to-school  post, so of course I was happy to indulge in some online shopping   and share some picks with you! This year, I’m digging the tobacco color, blue, and light pink. Throw in a dash of red, and it’s a great color combo that will take you through the seasons. Quirky and girly details such as lace, feathers and bows are perfectly pretty for the classroom. I carried a giant { it’s called the “Big Student”…I was actually so tiny that my backpack weighed more than I did and I pulled a muscle in my chest from carrying it…so I don’t recommend that} red Jansport backpack all during high school and college. For my Master’s Degree, I switched to a Longchamp tote bag. I personalized my backpack with a few keychains that showed off my interests: a tiny Freed pointe shoe (perfect Christmas gift material!), and a small bear with a chef’s hat from Johnson & Wales.

Back to School Style

This time of year, I’m all about skirts, dresses, and tops that can be worn as-is now, and paired with thick tights  and cardigans in a few months. The ballet flats and moccasins will be super cute for fall and winter with tights or socks.  Every high school or college girl needs a cute sweatshirt. This ballet-pink number with lace insets on the sleeves and back seems perfect to throw over a tank top when you’re needing a cozy comfort piece. Since it’s going to get cold, I suggest a classic coat in a pretty color, some funky handwarmers, and a cute headwrap. You may think it odd that I’m pairing a pink coat, blue headband, and red backpack, but really, I think it will work well.
Happy Back-to-School, dears! Here’s a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils JUST for you…colored or regular, take your pick! 😉

Summer Looks: Country Girl Cute

Chambray, gingham, seersucker, stripes, and straw….there’s just little more adorable than a Country Girl Cute look! Toss on a gingham or seersucker swimsuit, with a picnic skirt or seersucker shorts and an oversized white tee (tuck in a corner or tie it in a knot at the bottom), some gingham sunnies, and a gingham headband or straw hat. A chambray cover-up looks great with this theme, too. Striped Toms are such a cute casual shoe & a wonderful cause (when you buy a pair, they donate a pair).
Now pack up a picnic and get outside!

Summer Looks: Red Hot Summer

What sort of summer are you planning to have? Red hot? Country Girl Cute? I’ve got some fun ideas up my sleeve to help make the most of your summer style, head to toe!

I am so in love with this look! It is captures all of that silver-screen style from a bygone era…a hint of mystery, a whole lot of glamour, and a little bit of kitsch. I love the vintage-styled swimsuits, high-waisted sailor shorts, and a movie-star worthy hat or scarf. Don’t forget some flirty & fun shades! Some simple gold sandals add classic elegance.
