Since it is winter now, these two babies are my absolute essentials: Lotion and hand sanitizer in the cutest, most useful little tube from HumanGear. When they shared a leash for Lottie, they also sent me two of their GoToobs, the civilized travel tube. So I just have to tell you about them for a minute here because they are awesome!
{Medium and Small GoToobs}

 These beautiful, silicone tubes are so intuitively designed, they are sure to make travelling a much smoother experience. When I saw they were recommended by my favorite travel expert (the adorably pregnant-with-twins Samantha Brown), I knew I had to try them out.

What makes their tubes so fantastic? To begin with, they are squeezable. If you’ve ever had cheap “travel section at big box store” plastic containers for travel, you know that they are rigid and prone to leaking. And forget about ever cleaning all of your lotion outta there! Let’s be honest, you usually end up throwing them away after a trip because they are so inconvenient, right? No longer! These GoToobs make a great gift for yourself or any intrepid traveler. They’ll love you forever, I’m pretty sure. And I do mean forever, since GoToob offers a lifetime warranty on their products.
Look how pretty they are! Love the pink, orange and clear. They also come in blue/green/clear, all in 3 sizes (Small – 1.25 fl. oz., Medium – 2.0 fl. oz., and Large – 3.0 fl. oz.). They have a no-drip valve, a wide opening so you can get in there to really clean it out and reuse it, a special built-in labeling system so you’ll never put body wash in your hair again, the medium size has a suction cup to stick to the shower (!), and they are all BPA- and PC-free and FOOD GRADE. So you could put your special barbeque sauce in one to bring it camping. You could use it for toothpaste, then conditioner, and then you could use it for spicy mustard! I mean, it’s just so cool.

The medium, filled with shampoo, easily attaches to the shower wall via the built-in suction cup.

Ready & waiting for my next trip!
What are your purse or travel must-haves?

Wearing Hats {Part 2}: Ring Hat w/ Veil

Hat Number One: Vintage Linen Ring Hat with Veil and Little Velvet Bows:
Summer seems so light, beautiful, and full of endless possibility.

Except sometimes, life has other plans.

{outtake, but I actually loved it.}

Sometimes, we have to say goodbye in summer. I know, it doesn’t seem fair. It just doesn’t suit our collective spirit in summertime to have endings. I wore this outfit to the funeral of a dear friend’s grandmother. Sometimes, we must say goodbye at inopportune times. To be honest, there is never an opportune time for goodbyes.
As I write this, there’s an odd light hanging in the air. A summer storm is billowing on the horizon, and the leftover sunlight juts through storm clouds in a strange pattern. Sometimes, too, summer storms billow on the horizons of our lives.

{fingernail polish matches shoes}
I’m a believer in wearing black to funerals. It feels respectful, and symbolic of the loss. Black says, “The world is stopping for a moment, our world is, because we lost someone who kept it turning.” Much like my comments on Good Friday and the veil I wore then, wearing black and a hat helps me feel the symbolism, respect, and grieving process. When someone’s world stops as a loved one passes on, wearing black feels appropriate
And so does wearing a vintage ring hat with veil.
🙂
Linen Ring Hat with Veil and Velvet Bows: Vintage, Thrifted, 25 cents!

Red, White, Blue, Lace, Zebra

I’m such a sucker for dressing for holidays. And sometimes kitschy is fun, too, but I think it’s great to dress for the occasion a bit more subtly. I’m still wearing red (bangles & vintage earrings), white (dress, first day of the season to wear it…mixed with cream), and blue (ice blue eyeliner), but I don’t think the outfit screams, “Walking American flag.” I like to save that for the Fourth of July 😉
The zebra heels are a fun surprise element to this vintage shift dress, and with the rattan heels, are so summery. First Heidi braids of the season, and with bangs, too! Love it so much.
It was so funny because I spent the rest of the day adventuring, and it seemed everywhere I stopped people loved this dress! I say that because when my mom was visiting a month ago, and we were cleaning out my closet, she put this in my “donate” pile. Mom, I think I’m going to keep it, sorry 🙂
Another huge THANK YOU to all families, past & present, who carry the burden of their loved ones’ sacrifices for our country. Thank you. We will miss them, honor them, and never forget.
Have a GREAT week!

Shop Your Closet

I was so surprised to see two items nearly identical to items already in my own closet in the month’s issue of InStyle and the latest (fantastic!!! drool-worthy, of course!) J.Crew catalogue. I just had to show you! It was uncanny!

Left: J. Crew, $285…..Right: Mine, F21 a few seasons ago, $25
Savings: $260
Closeness match: 75% (theirs are leather and have a slight platform)
The heels on mine are almost identical. You can see them in an outfit in this post!
Left: Burgundy w/ wooden handle Gucci, $2,990.00 (inset is vintage carried by French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy), featured in October 2011 InStyle p. 145
Right: Mine, vintage Henri Bendel, $10
Savings: $2,980.00
Closeness Match: 75%
The bags are strikingly similar, with the clasps, handle, color, and shape. The wooden handles on InStyle’s are bamboo, mine is carved wood, but it still has the similar indentations

Goodness, gracious, see, I just saved, ohhhhhhh……$2,945.00.
This is such satisfying ‘shopping’!
