Sequins & Cords

I’m just not sure. Not sure at all.
Well, I mean, I’m sure I love sequins, corduroys, and ruffled wool cardigans.

I’m also entirely sure that I love the color combination of mint and cantaloupe/peach.
Totally a winner.

But here’s what I’m not sure of:
“BE STILL before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”
Psalm 37:7a

To be still. To be patient. These are virtues that are utterly difficult for this stubborn, hurting heart of mine.
But these are virtues He is calling me to.
He is inviting me into His presence as I wait.
He invites His darlings to come, and wait, and watch.
To hope.
To expect miracles.
To adore Him in silence.
To pour out the oil of our inner hearts by worshipping Him in presence and patience.
Not to be doormats. Not to be unable to make decisions. Not to be silenced.
But to be laying down control, so we may pick up contentment.
I want now. But You want WHOLE for me. I want here. But You want BEST for me. I want more. But You want ALL for me.
My stubborn, selfish heart wants now, here, and more.
Father, You have whole, best, and all for me.
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under Heaven.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1

May I wait with purpose, patiently, in your presence, pouring out my spirit so that I may be filled with Yours.

Casual Sequins: Oxymoron?

My friend told me I don’t wear jeans very often.
Regular old blue jeans, as opposed to colored denim, because we all know I love my hot pink jeans! I guess it’s true…I’m a skirt and dress sorta girl. That, or yoga pants and one of my many sweatshirts. But you don’t need to see that.
My mom gave me this top for Christmas. My brother (again with my brother  nick-naming my outfits/clothing, right? This was my lot in life growing up) calls this the “mermaid top.” I think I rather agree this time! The paillettes are a beautiful matte blue-green, but when the light hits them, they shine and come alive.

I wanted to try wearing this top in a wearable way. A “Hey, this Mermaid top isn’t so scary!” way. So I pulled out the old blue jeans. For some texture contrast, I added my velvet riding jacket and my gray suede pumps. Since the top is rather statement-y, I kept my makeup and jewelry very simple. Just a few coats of mascara and this wonderful Pomegranate-Fig Lip Butter I received in a gifted Birchbox, and it was a particularly good hair day thanks to another goodie from my Birchbox. Have you joined Birchbox? It’s totally fun…they send you designer beauty samples every month. You can join here! For jewelry, just some simple studs and my favorite rings. If your office lets you wear jeans on Casual Friday, I think this would be the perfect outfit. Take off the jacket, change the heels, add a bit more makeup, and you could head out for a party afterwards!
This Missoni bag is my absolute favorite winter purse. It’s a consignment store steal, considering it was under $20 and it retails for nearly $500. Tomorrow I’ll show you my purse & travel essentials featuring the uber-awesome GoToobs from HumanGear.
Also, I’ve been reading these amazing blog posts about picking the perfect jeans for your figure. Considering they don’t make my favorite brand of jeans (what I’m wearing above, Blue Cult) anymore (I don’t think…if you know otherwise, please let me know!), I’ll need these tips soon enough. Thanks, Rachel!

Extra Weekend

This is my It’s Monday. But it’s still the ‘weekend’! expression.
With Monday being a holiday we had an extra day to wear our weekend duds! If you know me, you know that practically no weekend ensemble is complete without a splash of neon!  Monochromatic with a pop of neon is always right, but since neon is such a trend right now, it’s even more on point.

Add sparkles, stripes, braided belt, lace-edged skirt, and ‘snakeskin’ sandals for even more visual interest.
Did you notice how this outfit is really, really simple in its foundations? It’s a tank, sweater, an ‘easy’ bottom (skirt with shorts underneath to keep things modest), and sandals.  How quickly could a tank top, sweater, and shorts look uninspired and boring? Mixing up the details are what really make the outfit stand out.

Braid Failure

I’m compelled to admit it: I tried a Katniss braid.
And I failed.
I can’t even do something so simple as a wildly popular teenage-film hairstyle.
You see, the french braid across the back of the head diagonally is actually supposed to be an inside-out french braid, not a regular one. Oops.

Negative points for trying to be a teenager again.

Especially when I have no real idea who Katniss is other than that she’s somehow related to the Hunger Games.
But all of that aside, I loved this mix of colors and textures for spring. A sequined tank top, patterned cardi, and wool tulip skirt and some cowboy boots.

Lime Green and Sequins

This is what I wore to a rock concert. Uhhhh….errrrrr….by “rock concert” I mean “Four-year-old’s Birthday Party.” Kinda the same thing. Lime green, sequins, and neon. My pink and green even (inadvertently) matched the Strawberry Shortcake theme colors!

This little four-year-old? Well, she’s stylin’. That’s her pink leopard raincoat hanging behind my purse. Do they make that in adult sizes?

Wednesday Work to Weekend

It’s Work-to-Weekend time, since it’s mid-week and we’re all pining for the weekend!

Gosh I love this outfit. Sequin tank is from one of my best friends, who traded it in for another color, and let me borrow this peachy-pink one. We often send each other boxes of clothes to trade/borrow, and this was in my latest installment. I’ve got one allllmost-ready for her by the door!
The beautiful Rome-scene silk skirt it a great new find. I think it will work in spring, summer, and fall (not so sure about winter?)
Weekend Wear:
Jeans, a more casual scarf, and a slightly different take on the color combo, and I’m good to go! Sequins can take a girl anywhere!
