Matching My Dog

Sometimes apparently I run out of pose ideas so I start to dance like Elaine from Seinfeld. This doesn’t surprise me. Does it surprise you? Didn’t think so.

Or maybe I’m just excited because Lottie got a new collar, leash, and sweater! Lottie is my family dog, the sweetest of sweetie pies. A real darlin’, that girl is. This Christmas she got a new red collar and my grandma knit her this adorable sweater. Lottie has never lived where there are major snowstorms, so she absolutely loves her cozy new outerwear. She also got this fancy new leash.

{which matches my outfit}

This leash is the real deal. Made by PAWW, a sister company of HumanGear, it is high-tech and human-savvy. The workmanship is stellar, and the leash is made out of double rip-stop nylon (often used in mountaineering equipment), which means if you were lost in the wilderness and needed to go all Bear Grills for some reason, you’d want this leash with you. It’s that tough.
Obviously, I’m not recommending you use this leash in any sort of mountaineering, other than taking your dog on a nice long walk in the woods.
Dogs dig that sort of thing.
And with the Paww Pick Pocket Leash, you will too. This intuitive, “civilized” leash keeps your doggie necessities right at hand. There is a built-in bag dispenser for doggy bags, and a zippered pocket for cash, a key, or better yet, a treat for your pup. The top clips around a post if you need to leave your pooch outside for a quick run to the store. There is a handy “utility loop” on the top that can be used to attach a flashlight, a used doggie bag, a toy, or whatever else you need to bring to the dog park or on that walk in the woods.

Lottie loves this leash.
My only complaint with this leash is that we were taught in our dog’s fancy training classes to always hold the leash with two hands, one wrapped around the leash and one farther down (that’s hard to describe in words). The high pocket placement makes it a bit hard to hold the leash in this manner. I think it might be nice to have the pocket closer to the collar, or perhaps adjustable. But we haven’t stopped using this leash on account of that….no way!
It’s clear with one look at this leash that it is the gear of choice for dogs and their owners who appreciate style and practicality. This leash means business.
It also means “extra long walks for Lottie.”
So it’s pretty win-win.
Many thanks to Katrin from Paww/HumanGear for letting me review their great products! This is my honest opinion in my own words.

A Little Bit Ivy League

I love a good collegiate style.
A little bit Ivy League with the (fake)Ostrich purse, the stripes, plaid, and pearls.
This time of year makes me really miss school. I just adore the architecture, the libraries, the tradition and the  activity on a crisp fall day on campus.
It’s filled with a feeling of beginning again and excitement mixed with purpose
Wow.
That sounds like exactly what I’m going for in life right now.
What’s better for Back to School than Pumpkin Spice Lattes? In the spirit of saving money, I made this do-it-at-home version and it is yummy, cheap, and easy. If you love Pumpkin Spice Lattes, I recommend you try this (and please, for my sake, try the whipped cream, since I didn’t have any handy).
And it matches my ’70s Norwegian mug. So it’s win-win.

PS. Shorts under skirt + fingertip rule, promise 🙂

Extra Weekend

This is my It’s Monday. But it’s still the ‘weekend’! expression.
With Monday being a holiday we had an extra day to wear our weekend duds! If you know me, you know that practically no weekend ensemble is complete without a splash of neon!  Monochromatic with a pop of neon is always right, but since neon is such a trend right now, it’s even more on point.

Add sparkles, stripes, braided belt, lace-edged skirt, and ‘snakeskin’ sandals for even more visual interest.
Did you notice how this outfit is really, really simple in its foundations? It’s a tank, sweater, an ‘easy’ bottom (skirt with shorts underneath to keep things modest), and sandals.  How quickly could a tank top, sweater, and shorts look uninspired and boring? Mixing up the details are what really make the outfit stand out.

Good Days

I’ve decided there’s an easy formula for a good spring day. A full skirt and wellies. Done deal 🙂
You know those conversations that you can only get to after a nice dinner, sweet dessert, and a cup of tea or two? It was a night for that kind of conversation. A night where you can dig down and share life. Fellowship is so sweet! Try to carve out some talking time with a friend or two this week to dig into life a bit more. I know sometimes it seems that we don’t have time for talking. What a waste of time when you could be accomplishing something! Or blogging/tweeting/etc., right? Oh, how wrong we are, sometimes. Sit on the porch with a friend. Sit and talk. And listen.
You’ll be amazed, I know it.

Skirt & Wellies

Hello!

Goodness, I had a happy day! Did you? I sure hope so.

Give me some sunshine, a little caffeine, a circle skirt, and some wellies, and I am one HAPPY girl!

There’s just something about a dress or a skirt paired with wellies–so charming, off-handed, country-sunshine-girl don’t you think? This outfit makes me want to go pick strawberries! Alas, I think it is too early for that in New England (but it is strawberry season in Florida!).

Have a great week!

Good Friday/Holy Saturday

This is what I wore on Good Friday. Yes, including a veil. Because our Savior died.

Now I know you’re probably thinking, “Yeah, but um, Natalie, He rose again, remember?”

And of course! But we can’t lose sight of the fact that HE DIED. He was sinless, blameless, spotless: the perfect lamb of God. This is the pivotal point in Christianity. “The most important weekend in the history of the world,” as my pastor said. He didn’t just die in vain. It wasn’t an accident–it wasn’t an oversight on God’s part Oops, man, how could I have looked away when Judas kissed Jesus? Darn, my plan A is ruined…

No. It was prophesied from the very beginning. This IS the plan. While we were yet sinners–still dirty and clothed in unrighteousness and our own selfish desires, God sent his only son to be nailed to a cross.
We cannot forget the power and gravity of the fact that our Savior was betrayed, unjustly accused, beaten, mocked, flogged, spat upon, nailed to a cross, and left to hang until he died.
And die, he did.
For me.
For my sins.
In my place.
For you, for your sins, in your place.

ugh, someone move my hair out of my eyes
So yes, I wear a veil. A green polka-dotted velvet-bow one, of course, hehe.
And it might look a little strange, a little Catholic, a little old-fashioned and out of place, but
it reminds me. It helps me feel the mourning. The weight of my sins upon Jesus on that day. It feels right to cover my head, and bow before him.
I reflect on the cost of my salvation and freedom in Christ–a gift free to me, but Jesus paid the price. God paid it, by sending “his one and only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
I know He died for me, and I know I will live with Him. Do you?
Tomorrow, then, we shall rejoice!

Stunningly Amazing

I have a ton of posts I didn’t get around to this week (craziness), but I just couldn’t help popping in to share this AMAZING cake. I wish I was talented enough to attempt this for Easter!!!!!

THAT, my friends, is a cake.
You can find the amazing story here.
I want that cake, and I will serve it on Easter while wearing the new skirt I thrifted this week:
Eyelet lace pencil skirt from BCBG. Major score.
Have I ever told anyone how much I LOVE EASTER?!?!?! To be continued…
