Monday Hello

Time for a Monday blog & vlog! Just a little hello and catch-up (and a weird thumbnail image!) 🙂

I did a little beach chair re-vamp, too…spray-paint and some vintage fabric and trim can do wonders for a rusty beach chair 🙂

New beach chair was thoroughly enjoyed. A bit too thoroughly, as I am THOROUGHLY sunburned 🙁
But mostly, the past 2 weeks I’ve been MIA on set for a cookbook photoshoot I styled.

#workinit
And I FINALLY got a copy of the Darling Magazine with 8 of my BRAND-NEW, PRINT-ONLY poems in them! Grab your copy now at Anthropologie, WholeFoods or a local cool retailer (ask your local stores to carry it if they don’t already!).
Darling Summer 2015 issue available to order online here too
But it hasn’t been all work and no play…
Tee hee.
Have a great week, my dears!

Jord Wood Watches

watch0
{nestled in a gorgeous little box, no detail is left unattended…watch is c/o JORD}
Today I am THRILLED to introduce you to JORD Wood Watches and this Ely Maple beauty. I cannot tell you how much I am truly enjoying this watch. It is lightweight and unique, perfect for summer, when a heavy band looks out of place. I am obsessed, and so is everyone who sees it. Yes, it is made out of wood.

Ely in Maple

The maple is lightweight and so lovely with summer skin with just a hint of tan. I’m quite excited to see how the wood ages and gains character, though it is perfect as is.

Now that I have the studio downtown, I’m constantly checking my parking meter, so I can’t tell you how much I’ve loved having this watch. I haven’t had a watch in awhile, and I MISS it. Checking my phone doesn’t have the same effect, and it’s much quicker to glance at my wrist. Even better? This also shows the date!

watch3

This is how much I love my new wood watch! I haven’t taken it off since it arrived a few weeks ago, and so far it has been adventuring with me when I’m not playing fancy-pants dress-up:

{follow me on instagram for photos like these!}
The watch has been adventuring, #caffeinecrazy, rappeling, niece-ing, and more.

I put together a few outfits with some of my other favorite JORD watches I would love to add to my collection soon. Which one is your favorite?

Goodness I can’t decide. I want them alllllllllllllllll!

Mango and Plum

mangopurple3b

I can’t get enough of this mango and deep plum color combination. It’s also a delicious flavor combination, so win-win, amiright?

mangopurple2c
Then let’s talk about these giant pearls I’ve been wanting forever and finally found at a tag sale last weekend! So much fun and a little Wilma Flinstone-esque as my friend said, but we all know that’s never stopped me before!

Then there’s this Holga camera that matches my outfit. I’m pretty sure it ups my cool points but then again maybe not considering it took me FOREVER to learn how to open the back where you put the film in. Either way, I hope to capture some funky summer images with this little plastic camera.

Firmoo Review & Giveaway

firmoo1GGS

It’s June! Lovely June, one of the fairest months of all, don’t you think? Quite lovely indeed, if I do say so myself (and I do! :)). Time for long dresses, sunglasses, and iced coffee. Did I mention sunglasses? Ya’ll know I have a soft spot in my heart for sunglasses, but sometimes with allergies I just cannot wear my contacts and that makes sunglasses almost impossible! Prescription sunglasses can be SO expensive.

firmoo2GGS

But not from Firmoo. I desperately needed some new ones, as my old ones I’ve had since I was 15 (the frames were Salvatore Ferragamo and were actually my everyday glasses until I got a new pair and replaced the lenses with sunglasses). Those Ferragamo frames are actually still just fine but were about three prescriptions outdated, though, and since I’m not ready for fit-overs yet in my youth, it was well-due time for a new pair.

firmoo3GGS

These are a really fun gray and black animal print with a slight cat eye. They are currently only available in red (odd?). The order process with Firmoo is perhaps the smoothest of all the online ordering I’ve done of glasses, and Firmoo is constantly running great deals. The glasses shipped to me directly from production in China, which bothered me slightly but was a surmountable obstacle. The price is great, and the quality is just fine. True, they aren’t Ferragamo, but the price wasn’t even close to Ferragamo either!

firmoo5GGA

I got an 80% tint (I use these mostly for driving and I like dark glasses for driving) and of course an anti-reflective coating and UV protection (non-negotiables for me, especially for driving). Each additional coating is a slight increase in price, but certainly nothing compared to the cost at a traditional optometrist.

I think these pink and animal print frames would make fantastic sunglasses for summer!
Now for the best part! Firmoo has been generous enough to let me give away (!!!) five (FIVE) (!!!!!!!!!!!!) codes for $30 off frames. There are a lot of frames under or just over $30 that include free single-vision lenses, meaning you’d be able to get the frames for free or almost-free and just pay for lenses (and shipping, does not apply to discounted products) if you, like me, have a very high prescription or add on the bells and whistles. This is so exciting!

Up to three entries per person: If you’d love to add some fun new eyeglasses or sunglasses to your wardrobe this summer, leave a comment here for one entry. You can earn another entry by following me on Twitter (@fashionatalie). You can earn a third entry by tweeting about the contest here: Click to Tweet!

Please leave me a separate comment under this post for each entry.
Contest closes at midnight on Friday, June 6.
Have fun and happy sunglasses shopping!

Grace

{new dress that was on crazy-clearance at TJ Maxx. It was a size medium so I sewed it up to a small 🙂 The lace on the top has gold threads through it!)
I’ve been thinking about grace lately.
I’ve been having some hard thoughts about grace lately.
We talk a lot about seeking grace (an unmerited pardoning of our transgression or shortcoming).
But we seem to think that grace just IS and it’s always there and it’s free and we can take as much as we need for every little thing.
{Who needs a wind machine when you’ve got the real thing?!}
Which is mostly true. Grace is free and available to us. But I don’t want us to forget that it was not free for God. God? Yeah, He PAID that price. He sent His only son to DIE on the cross for us.
And to rise again.
That is the reason we have grace.
Grace is powerful.
Grace should be transformative in our lives.
So here’s what I propose: instead of shouting “grace” over ourselves, let’s not claim grace without going to the GIVER of GRACE and being on our knees before Him for a moment.
Isn’t that the point of grace?

To point us back to God?

To be grace-filled by the giver of all good things, so that we, too, may go out into the world and give grace to others.
{now I’ve got the doxology in my head. anyone else? #praiseGodfromwhomallblessingsflow}
Your thoughts on grace?

Monday Vlog and #SavetheDriveIn

Vintage 1950s romper over jeans.
Perfect Drive-in movie outfit.
Let’s talk about something I’m passionate about for a sec:
I LOVE drive-in movie theaters.

I am such a sucker for nostalgia, romance, and the 1950s-60s. Only trouble is, the big movie houses have decided to stop issuing first-run movies on 35mm film, which means nearly every single one of the 360-ish drive-ins left will have to either close forever or upgrade to a digital projector. The big problem with that scenario? Digital projectors cost around $80,000 each
Honda created the #SavetheDriveIn campaign to raise awareness of the issue, raise funds for drive-ins, and to give away FIVE projectors free to the drive-ins with the most votes. You can raise funds, raise awareness, and VOTE for your LOCAL or favorite drive-in HERE. You can vote two ways (text and online) DAILY.
I went to my local drive-in this weekend. Support yours. And by the way, don’t try to sneak in your own snacks…drive-ins pay a premium to show the films and often make hardly anything (if anything) on ticket sales. They make their operating costs from the snack stand. So those $2.50 Snow Caps I bought? Just keepin’ my local drive-in afloat for the next generation. I also let them keep the change on my ticket price towards the new projector. Drive-Ins are part of Americana I feel strongly we should try to save. I don’t know about you, but I want to be able to bring my family to a drive-in.
Everyone, Labor Day weekend may be the last weekend of your local drive-in. Ever. Go show them your support and maybe even let them keep the change from your ticket price towards the cost of a new projector.
Blogger friends, please let your readers know about this! Together let’s #SavetheDriveIn
(PS This is totally just something I’m passionate about and this post is in no way sponsored or anything like that)

Waxing Poetic

Sometimes you have to dig through old things to get to the new ones.

Sometimes you have to wear old dresses for new beginnings.

Like a  lilac 1950s dress for a solo vacation and for chasing down some memories on a walk along the lake, far from home.

Waking up in a new place is good for the soul.
Having experiences beyond your control is good for the spirit.
So is tea on the porch of an 1800s house in the morning light, looking out over the lake and the mountains, seeing the pure white clouds bend low as if to whisper,
“There is light here, darling. You’re almost there. Keep going.”

You’re almost there, darlings. Keep going.
Happy weekend!

Happy Hot Pink

Nothin’ like a happy hot pink shift dress for a classic summer look.

And the best part? A hot pink dress makes other people happy! I love the domino-happy-effect.
Be a Daymaker.

The trick to wearing a hot pink dress?

Confidence and a smile.

It’s summer, so be bold, brave, and bright.
{so what if you don’t have that great of a tan? pale skin is beautiful, too!}
