A Little Bit of This

{thrifted scarf, thrifted merino plum sweater, H&M blazer, F21 jeans, thrifted boots}
No big, fancy outfits around here lately, just a few everyday-doing-this-thing-called-life outfits.

{Caroline G. necklace, Target sweater, Gap cami, F21 jeans &  boots}
This was such a gray day, you can tell by the lighting. I was wearing a dark purple sweater, and I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, “This shirt is making you look tired & sad. You need color.” So I swapped for my yellow sweater (current clearance at Target, fyi!), my peach Caroline G. bubble necklace, and my hot pink Radiant cosmetics lipstick. Much better!

{Thrifted tee, thrifted sweater, J.Crew cords, H&M ring, Minnetonka mocs}
Crushing hard on this color combo of seafoam and raspberry lately.
And who doesn’t love some Minnetonka mocs?
The snow was swirling in an ethereal way this morning: circular, horizontal, dream-like.
I felt like I was inside of a snowglobe, truly.
Quite lovely.

Polka Dots, Zig Zags and Daisies

The sun was out yesterday.
You know, after it was snowing/raining and before there were tornadoes and then it snowed again.

Minnesota, whatchyou doin’?
Calm this crazy weather down, will ya?

{Zig-Zag tights! The best!}

{Daisy Baubles! Also the best!}
But when the weather gets crazy, the outfits get crazy!
Mixing polka dots with zig-zags and daisies.
That I like! Those are good things.
🙂

Check, Please!

This was such a happy day.

One of the summer days where you can say with relish, “Check, please!” at the diner of life, having enjoyed the day fully, every moment of it, soaked up deeply for safekeeping. You stretch backwards a bit, full of happiness, and say, “That was one of the best days I’ve had in a long time,” as if Sunday afternoon adventuring were the blue plate special.
Can you believe this dress is vintage? Looks like it’s brand-spankin’-new. So many people commented on this dress! I think it’s just fun, fun, fun. I adore it’s yellow bows and kick pleats.
Perfect for late-summer adventuring.
You can tell this is the dress I was wearing in my photobooth pictures (that I used in my new blog design! What do you think?)
yellow daisy earrings and yellow fingernail polish
 {and pure sugar lemonade from Wendy’s, which I actually totally love}
I’m feeling quiet of spirit tonight–feeling a little bit ill, exhausted, and drained. Not the best way to start the week. But my best friend’s little boy told her out of the blue, “I want to take Natalie to Seattle!” (they were visiting there a week ago). She asked him, “Why?” and he said, “I want to show her around!”
Well, I tell you, who needs a boyfriend when you can be Auntie to such a sweetie-pie?!?!
Melted my heart.
Have a great week!

Hot Pink 4EVR

Hot pink + Natalie = Best Friends 4EVR

Also, you can tell I was having a wonderful time at a picnic party, because my belt is totally askew and I had no idea.
Yes, belt askew = obviously Natalie had a great time at a picnic party.
It just SCREAMS that, don’t you think? 😉

In all honesty, though, it was such a wonderful picnic with people I love. And while I’m not technically family, I’m totally family. Y’know? The best thing ever.  I will miss these people dearly. For the past 6 1/2 years, we have built into each other’s lives, seen triumphs and trials together, seen boyfriends/girlfriends/marriages/children/deaths…we’ve been doing life together. That’s the family of God at work. We are created for such community, and being involved in it fills a deep need in our lives, I believe. I am so thankful for that.
xo!

Remember that Day…

Remember that day I accidentally poured orange juice over my cereal instead of milk?
Yeah, no, I don’t remember that either…
Remember that day I woke up and inadvertently dressed like the Swedish flag?
That day was today.

Something Swedish has been on my mind for awhile…and my subconscious must be picking up on it…

Sending me into my closet for every gold & blue piece I own…

…even turning a dress into a skirt…

and finding that my ring and fingernails complete the picture.
I may not be blonde, but I sure am Swedish!
{sometimes I act blonde and pour orange juice over my cereal instead of milk. so that counts, right?}

Things Of Late

How’s your summer going?
Mine has been wonderful so far!
Here are a few snaps of what’s been going on lately…
I’m TOTALLY smitten with a crown braid:
These outfit pics were all overexposed, but this dress is so much fun. Strangely, I feel it has a Sound of Music vibe to it…
I’ve been doing some travelling, which for me means “tattoo”ing myself with words like “Sovereign” to combat anxiety and wearing SeaBands. Oh boy.

I finally did the seafoam/yellow nail polish combo, and it’s so cute! Also, these GoPicnics are my favorite thing to eat while travelling. Gluten-free and fantastic. I can’t say enough good things about them.
This beautiful drink is delicious. And the bottle’s a keeper!
Been brewin’ up lots of iced coffee:
{cold-brew = only way to go}
Playing tennis:
My friend said, “You look like a piece of candy.”
Hahahaha. That’d be me.
Looking like a piece of candy.
No big deal.
Also, tennis is one of those things I always wanted to be amazing at…and never got past “halfways-decent.” Or, as the same friend said, “We’re below amateurs.” And I said, “What’s below amateurs?”
“Losers.”
Haha.
On that note, my dears, have a wonderful day!!
xo!

Happy & Skippy

{yet again, these shorts WERE ironed at the beginning of the day, fyi}

Screen-star style! Give me a touring car and let’s hit the roads of Monaco!

Since I’m fresh off my “It’s raining” kick, I won’t go on a new, “It’s hot” kick. But, just for the record: it’s really, really hot outside.
Aaaaaaand moving on.
This outfit makes me happy and skippy. As in, wanting to skip instead of walk.
I love this outfit because it’s simple but punchy, and modern but retro. All of the pieces are new (ie. not vintage), and the colors are modern, but the whole look has a definite retro vibe.
Almost the weekend!

Sunny with a Chance of Preppy

It was a sunny weekend! Sunny with a chance of preppy 😉
I took that chance of preppy–not a style I do often, though I adore it. I just generally inch towards vintage-girly more so than the straight lines of preppy.

Braided gold flats with a tiny wooden heel certainly feel preppy to me. Very nautical.
I picked up these bright green bermuda shorts, thinking I could use them as a summer version of colored skinny jeans. Do you think colored shorts translate as well?
The shirt is yellow gingham, but it’s hard to tell in the photos above.
I got SO many compliments on this sunny yellow nail polish.
I’ve been wanting to try the yellow nail polish trend for a few summers now, but kept telling myself I had plenty of nail polish to use up first. But when a perfectly yellow bottle of Sally Hansen showed up in the clearance bin for $1, who was I to argue with my deep-seated inner yellow-nail-polish love?

It lived up to my expectations and I just adore it for summer. It will definitely be a regular part of my summer nail polish rotation.
Don’t worry, seafoam green…we’re still friends, too. In fact, I think you and sunny yellow will play nicely together, like this:
{found online…anyone know which blogger this is?}
Because aside from the fact that she’s wearing way too many accessories, those amazing polka-dot pants paired with yellow & sea foam green alternating nail polish are crazy-inspiring.
Have a great week, my dears! You’re looking lovely this Monday morning!

Roman Holiday

Remember when I recommended some movie/snack pairings for rainy days? While, it’s raining again. I should say, still, since we had approximately 48 minutes of sunshine combined over the weekend and today.
So I’ll wear a Roman Holiday of an outfit…silk skirt with scenes of Italy, vintage basket-weave purse, bow belt…and that oughtta bring another 4 minutes of sunshine, don’t you think?
PLEASE?
Have a great day!

Bright Mother’s Day

All anyone had to say about this outfit was, “Bright!” They lost their ability to speak in complete sentences because apparently this outfit is so “Bright!” and distracting like a shiny object to a toddler. They would point, jaw down, “Bright!” And I am only slightly exaggerating 🙂
I’m totally into yellow as of late…and it’s a color I never thought I could wear. The conclusion thus far is that as long as it is warm yellow–mustardy—then I can wear it. When my mom was here we did an experiment and all of my cool yellows looked significantly better on her skin tone, so off they went in her suitcase.
What do you think about this in-between yellow? Is it quite right or quite wrong?
