Fall Textures

It felt like Autumn today.
So I broke out my new little fall sweater (new = 25 cents from tag sale!) and paired it with some classy patent pumps for a texture swtich. These pumps have a rattan heel, which I thought matched the texture of the sweater nicely.

And I don’t really have much else to say except I’m tired.

So I’m going to have some coffee and get to work on business plans.
Sounds good-ish, right?
{trying to pep-talk myself, ha}
Have a good one!

Happiness

Gosh vacation makes me feel so happy.
Mint green makes me feel so happy.
Family makes me feel so happy & loved.
Coffee definitely makes me feel happy.
Doesn’t it feel good to be happy?
To feel loved, happy, and free inside your heart?
You know what I mean?
For such a long time, I didn’t know what that freedom inside my heart felt like, even though I still thought I was “happy”.

But freedom? It feels different from happy. It is this amazing mix of calmness from such a deep well, and this utter freedom to explore and dream and do and love…to shine for Christ…nothing holding you back inside your heart.

It’s utterly stunning to experience.
And it’s only from Christ that I can ever say I feel freedom in my heart.
Only, ever, always Jesus.
Words for my heart:
Words for your heart:
Let your love, God, shape my life
with salvation, exactly as you promised;
Then I’ll be able to stand up to mockery
because I trusted your Word
Don’t ever deprive me of truth, not ever-
your commandments are what I depend on.
Oh, I’ll guard with my life what you’ve revealed to me,
guard it now, guard it ever;
and I’ll stride freely through wide open spaces
as I look for your truth and wisdom;
Then I’ll tell the world what I find,
speak out boldly in public, unembarrassed.
I cherish your commandments-oh, how I love them!
relishing every fragment of your counsel.
Psalm 119:41-48
{the message}
These words, my dear ones.
Let these words soak your spirit in healing and encouragement.

There’s not much more I can say, because those words feel so weighty and yet so weightless to my heart tonight.

Bows and Bouffants

I’m a ’60s girl at heart, I do believe. Give me a bow and a bouffant and I’m quite happy indeed. Touches of leopard (and more bows in my hair!) and a blouse covered in tiny bows…yes yes and more yes. Always yes to bows!
 I think it’s so amusing how skinny jeans are such a modern trend right now, but they suit my ’60s tendencies so very well. Everything old is new again.
xo!

Good Days

I’ve decided there’s an easy formula for a good spring day. A full skirt and wellies. Done deal 🙂
You know those conversations that you can only get to after a nice dinner, sweet dessert, and a cup of tea or two? It was a night for that kind of conversation. A night where you can dig down and share life. Fellowship is so sweet! Try to carve out some talking time with a friend or two this week to dig into life a bit more. I know sometimes it seems that we don’t have time for talking. What a waste of time when you could be accomplishing something! Or blogging/tweeting/etc., right? Oh, how wrong we are, sometimes. Sit on the porch with a friend. Sit and talk. And listen.
You’ll be amazed, I know it.

GGS Goes Shopping: Spring at Kohl’s

I very rarely go shopping. Actual, real, new-clothes shopping, that is. I go thrifting…well, we won’t discuss how often I go thrifting. So when I went to run an errand in a shopping plaza that had a Kohls, I couldn’t resist the allure of checking out the new additions to the LC Lauren Conrad line. While I haven’t been to a Kohls in absolute ages, they have really upped their game, I gotta say. It was a breath of fresh air to look at the colors, textures, styles, and cuts that are current. I’m so used to sifting through dingy colors and ratty old t-shirts at the thrift store! I wanted to share a few of my favorite faith-based fashion finds for spring (modest, budget-friendly, and adorable) from shopping in-person.

Let’s pretend that we’re shopping together! Here are my favorite things that I would pull from the racks and hold up to show you:

Shopping @ Kohls

You saw that adorable Elle lace peplum top in my last post–it was the most expensive of the things I actually purchased, but I am so excited to wear it all sorts of ways this summer. I also picked up the black/white/hot pink top. It is just so darling! The orange skirt was so cute, but I’m not sure midi-pleats and I get along (someone with more delicate ankles than me, please wear this!). Gray cropped trousers don’t look like anything special, but they were quite adorable on–and the little belt is actually a bow. The blue floral top is just about the softest thing you’ll ever wear (and cute to boot!). A little chiffon peplum vest could go over just about anything..and go from work to weekend easily, too! And who doesn’t love stretchy mint jeans or vintage-inspired sunnies?
I hope you enjoyed “Good Girl Style Goes Shopping”! Let me know if you like this concept for a series, and maybe I’ll take you shopping with me next time, too. But it will be your turn to get the coffees 😉

Orange & Blue

I got these orange jeans and was’t quite sure how to style them until I saw this picture. I just had to recreate this outfit as soon as possible! I’m so glad I did because this is one of my favorite outfits. It just felt really, really great to wear, and perfect for spring. You know those kinds of outfits? They really make the whole day seem better, don’t you think? Now I hardly want to take these orange jeans off. I’ve worn them twice so far, and just threw ’em in the wash, so I can’t wait to wear them again. I never would have thought in a million years that orange jeans would become my new favorite!

Braid Failure

I’m compelled to admit it: I tried a Katniss braid.
And I failed.
I can’t even do something so simple as a wildly popular teenage-film hairstyle.
You see, the french braid across the back of the head diagonally is actually supposed to be an inside-out french braid, not a regular one. Oops.

Negative points for trying to be a teenager again.

Especially when I have no real idea who Katniss is other than that she’s somehow related to the Hunger Games.
But all of that aside, I loved this mix of colors and textures for spring. A sequined tank top, patterned cardi, and wool tulip skirt and some cowboy boots.

Hello Sunshine

I dug out some of my summer dresses the other day, just to play around with them before it gets too hot to style them with any sweaters/scarves (boooooooooring). I found this yellow dress coordinated perfectly with a little cardigan I found at the thrift store last fall. It’s fun to see pieces from different seasons mix so effortlessly, don’t you think?
And that beautiful forsythia! Welcome, spring!

Jean Suit

It’s all in the details. This outfit could go casual very quickly–trade the heels for flats, throw off the jacket and scarf, and you’ve got cute-summer-weekend in the bag. But some blue suede heels, a metallic blue scarf, a beautifully tailored denim blazer, and a blue bauble necklace (under the scarf; I forgot to take a picture!) really make the diffrence. As do painted fingernails, some rings, clean/shiny/straight/bangs-behaving-well hair and makeup. The details. These mirrored aviators make my life more fun. Dug ’em out of the $1 bin at the thrift store. They are missing one nose pad, but eh–how much does that matter, really? One less nose pad mark when I take them off! Ha!
{suppose I could get one of those $3 eyeglass repair kits, huh?}

Draper Girl

Oh my, do I love a good hat!
A girl hop on a train to anywhere with a good hat.
{midnight train goin’ anyyyyyyyyywheeeeerrrrrrreeeeeeee}
Ahem. Pardon the complete digression. But these photos were taken at a train station. And then I just got carried away. Bachelor night seems to make me feel a little over-dramatic

And then the sun came out for a hot minute before it started snowing lightly. The wind was blowing something fierce, so I had to hold on to my hat for dear life.
When I saw that this particular hat was a “Draper” hat, I just had to get it for the Mad Men reference. Apart from its particular cute-ness.
But goodness if there isn’t a bit of romance in that, don’t you think?
Train stations, vintage hats, wind, Draper…
A bit of romance, if I do say so myself.
{See what I mean about Bachelor nights making me overly dramatic?}
