Waxing Poetic

Sometimes you have to dig through old things to get to the new ones.

Sometimes you have to wear old dresses for new beginnings.

Like a  lilac 1950s dress for a solo vacation and for chasing down some memories on a walk along the lake, far from home.

Waking up in a new place is good for the soul.
Having experiences beyond your control is good for the spirit.
So is tea on the porch of an 1800s house in the morning light, looking out over the lake and the mountains, seeing the pure white clouds bend low as if to whisper,
“There is light here, darling. You’re almost there. Keep going.”

You’re almost there, darlings. Keep going.
Happy weekend!

Tunic Time

We’ve had a few nights lately with the hint of an autumn breeze in them, so today I took a look in my closet and thought, “What summery things haven’t I worn yet?” This tunic was the first to answer, “Me! Me!”

So I took it out for a day on the town {y’know, glamorous stuff like work, the grocery store, and the car repair place}

{ooo, oooo, don’t my curls looks slightly Duchess Kate-ish here?!}

Kick it Up a Notch

Some days you gotta kick it up a notch, y’know?
Grab the coffee and head out into the world with the most energy you can muster and see what becomes of it. I’ll bet my bottom dollar it’ll be beautiful.

Happy Hot Pink

Nothin’ like a happy hot pink shift dress for a classic summer look.

And the best part? A hot pink dress makes other people happy! I love the domino-happy-effect.
Be a Daymaker.

The trick to wearing a hot pink dress?

Confidence and a smile.

It’s summer, so be bold, brave, and bright.
{so what if you don’t have that great of a tan? pale skin is beautiful, too!}

Exciting

Channeling some of the Duchess of Cambridge’s more casual style today as I await news of the #RoyalBaby. Also drinking English black tea all day.
Although those two things (dressing a’la Kate and drinking black tea all day) are normal for me, so there’s that. I guess I, too, was born to be a Princess. Hi there, Prince Harry {though I’m pretty sure Harry got scolded for his bad behavior and it shows with the new succession line}
Anyway, carry on with your normal Monday routine.
For now.
Until we hear more news.
Ooo, this is exciting!
Are you excited?

Happy summer, friends.
Lately I’ve been all about fresh lemonade, baking in this crazy heat, Sara Bareilles’ new CD, Relient K’s new CD, hiking, and staying up way too late/sleeping in {oops}.
What is the BEST THING you’ve done so far this summer?!

For a Story

Because it’s Saturday night and my work week is over.

Because the light in Florida was kickin’.
{disclaimer: I have no idea what kickin’ means, but it sounds good}

Because hot pink and black are so very “Natalie.”
Because this outfit reminds me of a story.
Which reminds me that we are all here, all living life, all trying to find stories.
Happy story-making weekend, friends. Enjoy!

Weekend Duds

Saturday rollin’ in flowered Birks, chambray shorts, white cami, flowered shirt, EMS half-zip, my fave sunnies, my fave hat, and my “Together” necklace.
The shirt underneath…so pretty when the light comes through!
{sharp eyes will notice a Hello Kitty bandaid on my finger. yep}

In other news: I finally got a KitchenAid mixer! Woot…I feel so legit and grown-up now. ‘Cause everyone knows that KitchenAid mixers are registry gifts, right, and you only get one when you’re officially ‘growing up’? Well, no registry here, but I picked it up for a song and I’m so excited to add it to my kitchen.
So that’s the weekend recap.
Into the new week!

How We Feelin’?

I’m feelin’ like this song and this song on repeat.
I’m feelin’ like short boots and a short dress.
I’m feelin’ like the weekend better get here soon.
I’m feelin’ like eating 1/3 of a loaf of banana bread for breakfast is totally legit.
I’m feelin’ like somehow this blend of the end of a bunch of bags of different coffees made the best iced coffee ever.
I’m feelin’ like these words from a friend are so important to my heart lately:
Jesus + Nothing = ENOUGH
Amen, right?
And I’m feelin’ excited to announce the winner of the KIND giveaway (drumroll please):
Amy Wetzel! Amy, please email me! (goodgirlstyleblog at gmail dot com). Woot!

A Week’s Worth

{pretty basics}

{classy-like}
{making fresh lemonade}

{way toooooo hot out for my liking + retro vibe}

{flannel + mocs}
It’s a rainy night and the only words I have for you are these:
It will be alright.
In fact, it will be brilliantly beautiful.
Just hang in there.
Keep smiling.
Live in the NOW.
It’s coming.
{whatever it is…but your heart knows, right?}
And when it comes?
It’s going to be glorious-like-woah.
Miracle-big-time.
Bigger-than-I-ever-dreamed-amazing.
I’m talking God-moves-mountains sorta huge, and
heart-exploding-inside-my-chest kinda awesome.
So hang in there.
It will be alright.
It will be God-makes-things-so-much-more-than-alright-crazy-good.
